FCP 101: An Introduction to Final Cut Pro 6 Level 1

This three-day, hands-on course introduces students to the primary feature set and basic interface of Final Cut Pro. Apple Certified Trainers will teach you to perform basic editing functions while familiarizing yourself with the user interface. Topics include basic setup, adjusting and customizing preferences and settings, capturing video and audio, various editing and trimming techniques, Ripple, Roll, Slip and Slide tools, audio editing and audio creation, finishing and final output. This course covers the knowledge necessary to become an Apple Certified Pro, Level One in Final Cut Pro.

Prerequisites

Students should have the following prerequisite knowledge prior to attendingthis course
  • Basic knowledge of Mac OS X
  • Basic knowledge of editing terminology is recommended
Certification Exam
Students will be given the option to take the certification exam on site at DV Expo.  Exam will be offered at 3:30pm Thursday, November 6. Vouchers will also be available if student would like to return to a training facility and take the exam at a later date.

FCP 300: Advanced Techniques in Final Cut Pro 6 Level 2


This three-day course teaches the advanced skills that editing professionals need to know most. Using professional real-world broadcast, documentary, and dramatic footage, you’ll master the time saving and advanced editing techniques including Replace Edits, Gang Sync, advanced trimming techniques including multi-track and asymmetrical trimming,  trimming under transitions and working with split edits. Additionally, you’ll learn to make polished transitions, edit multi-camera projects, work with nested sequences, create fantastic effects, color correct your video and composite like a pro.  The course also includes interaction with other programs in the Final Cut Studio including Motion, Soundtrack Pro, and Compressor.

Prerequisites

Students should have the following prerequisite knowledge prior to attending the course:

  • Basic knowledge of Mac OS X
  • Level One Final Cut Pro End User certification is required
  • Ideally, students will have attended a Final Cut Pro 101, 200 or 250 course
Certification Exam
Students will be given the option to take the certification exam on site at DV Expo.  Exam will be offered at 3:30pm Thursday, November 6. Vouchers will also be available if student would like to return to a training facility and take the exam at a later date.

Michael Wohl is widely respected around the world as one of the preeminent experts on Final Cut Pro. As part of the original engineering team, Michael helped design the workflow and interface that has earned Final Cut its award-winning reputation. He is also an award-winning filmmaker who has written, directed and edited independent films for more than fifteen years. He is the author of eight books on Final Cut Pro including the textbook for this class, Final Cut Pro: Beyond the Basics, and he has designed curricula for and taught at many institutions including AFI, UCLA, and San Francisco State University.

Final Cut Studio 101: Motion Graphics and Effects

This three-day, hands-on course familiarizes students with real-world effects techniques, including filters, layering, composite modes and animating video, graphics and titles. The practical approach to motion graphics focuses on the features of Final Cut Studio that editors and designers need to use in their daily work. Using Motion, Final Cut Pro and LiveType, you’ll build creative titles, motion menus, show bumpers and news opens as you learn everything from text animation, compositing, and keyframing to 3D set creation and camera animation. This course covers the knowledge necessary to become an Apple Certified Pro, Level One in Final Cut Studio.


Prerequisites

Students should have the following prerequisite knowledge prior to attending the course:

  • Basic knowledge of Mac OS X
  • Level One Final Cut Pro End User certification is required
  • Ideally, students will have attended a Final Cut Pro 101, 200 or 250 course
